Neurologist Oliver Sacks, MD, died at 82 years old on August 30, according to Medscape.

1. Dr. Sacks died from liver cancer.
2. A neurologist, Dr. Sacks also wrote books, including Awakenings and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. He published his memoir, On the Move in April.
3. Dr. Sacks also wrote books about neurology, with topics like Tourette's syndrome and Alzheimer's disease.
4. Before his death, he served as a neurology professor at New York University School of Medicine.
5. After receiving his medical degree from Oxford University, Dr. Sacks completed a residency at Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco. He then did a fellowship at the University of California — Southern California.
