UW-Madison receives $250k donation for neurosurgery department: 5 points

The department of neurosurgery at University of Wisconsin Madison received a donation from the J.P. Cullen Foundation, according to GazetteXtra.

Here are five points:

 

1. The $250,000 donation was given in honor of 90-year-old J.P. Cullen's birthday.

 

2. The money will go toward research investigating brain recovery post illness and injury.

 

3. The J.P. Cullen Excellence in Research Award recognizes a friendship between Mr. Cullen and Robert Dempsey, MD, neurosurgery department chair.

 

4. Dr. Dempsey removed a tumor in Mr. Cullen's brain, resulting in Mr. Cullen's interest in promoting neurosurgery research.

 

5. Dr. Dempsey researches how to reduce stroke and premature vascular cognitive decline, specifically with the use of genes and cell biology.
