Dr. Alexander Vaccaro becomes SmartCEO Magazine's CEO of the Year: 5 key highlights

SmartCEO Magazine named Alexander Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, CEO of the Year in Philadelphia. 

Dr. Vaccaro assumed the Rothman Institute President position in 2014. The practice has grown significantly over the past five years and continues to participate in innovative collaborations and initiatives across the country. Dr. Vaccaro is the past president of the Association of Collaborative Spine Research and American Spinal Injury Association.

 

Here are five key notes on Rothman Institute in 2015, according to the magazine:

 

1. The practice has 127 physicians with 22 offices and 20 surgical sites across the region. The physicians take cases to ambulatory surgery centers and a surgical hospital in addition to local hospitals.

 

2. The practice is projected to generate $235 million from the practice and another $155 million from the surgical locations.

 

3. Rothman physicians are expected to perform 50,600 surgeries and physical medicine and rehabilitation procedures this year.

 

4. The physicians will publish 225 articles all together in peer-reviewed journals.

 

5. Four of Philadelphia's professional sports teams, six colleges and 43 high schools partner with Rothman Institute physicians for medical coverage.

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Vacarro has authored 607 peer-reviewed articles, 300 book chapters and co-edited 47 textbooks. Earlier this year, Dr. Vaccaro took the helm as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques.

 

In addition to his role at Rothman Institute, Dr. Vaccaro is chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery, co-director of the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley and co-director of spine surgery and the spine fellowship program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He is the Richard H. Rothman Professor and Chairman in the department of orthopedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

 

The North American Spine society awarded Dr. Vaccaro the Leon Wiltse award given for excellence in leadership and clinical research in spine care.
