Researchers analyzed whether cervical total disc replacement using the Mobi-C proved an effective alternative to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion in a new study published in the International Journal of Spine Surgery.
The study compared outcomes at a five-year follow-up, using data of 245 patients across 23 centers.

1. TDR patients experienced a 61.9 percent composite overall success, compared to 52.2 percent for ACDF patients.
2. The two groups experienced similar improvements in Neck Disability Index, visual analog scales assessing neck and arm pain and Short Form-12 health survey scores.
3. Researchers didn't discover major differences in adverse events or major complications between the two groups.
4. TDR patients maintained range of motion through the five-year follow-up.
5. TDR patients experienced significantly lower rates of device-related subsequent surgeries and adjacent segment degeneration at the superior level.
6. Researches concluded TDR with the Mobi-C serves as a safe and effective alternative to ACDF.
