Cleveland Clinic named Michael Steinmetz, MD, chairman of the neurosurgery department, according to Crain's Cleveland Business.
Here are five highlights:
1. Dr. Steinmetz will take over the role on Nov. 1, heading the neurosurgery department's administrative and academic activities.
2. He succeeds Edward Benzel, MD, as neurosurgery chair. Dr. Benzel will now serve as the director for patient experience and staff career development.
3. Dr. Steinmetz will also continue in his position as co-director of the Center for Spine Health and is a neurosurgery professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.
4. Dr. Steinmetz's research focuses on the clinical outcomes associated with neuroprotection and regeneration after experimental spinal cord injury.
5. Dr. Steinmetz completed his complex spine surgery fellowship at University of Wisconsin, Madison.
