Regional Health to build $55M Advanced Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute
Regional Health announced construction plans for the Advanced Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute in Buffalo Crossing, S.D. The $55 million facility will be completed in two years, and it is expected to be a two-level 100,000-square-foot building. Orthopedic surgeons, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, sports medicine specialists, pain specialists and podiatrists will practice at the facility.

Dr. Solomon Kamson presents 5-year review of full-endoscopic assisted MIS lumbar decompression in outpatient setting
Solomon Kamson, MD, PhD, of Bothell, Wash.-based Spine Institute Northwest, presented findings from a five-year review of full-endoscopic assisted minimally invasive lumbar decompression in an outpatient setting. The study revealed the following ranges of overall complication rates:
• Open lumbar disc surgery: 5.3 percent to 20.7 percent
• Microendoscopic discectomy: 4 percent to 41.5 percent
• MIS: 5 percent to 15.4 percent
Study authors concluded MIS is a safe and viable alternative to open back surgery.
