Dr. Khalid Kurtom & team perform 22 spine, brain surgeries on Syrian refugees — 5 things to know

Khalid Kurtom, MD, of Easton-based University of Maryland Community Medical Group, will deliver a presentation on a recent mission trip to Jordan on June 29, according to myeasternshoremd.com.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. The presentation is called, "Neurosurgery and Hope — The Mission for Syrian Refugees."

 

2. Dr. Kurtom and four operating team members recently traveled to Amman, Jordan, to perform complex, minimally invasive brain and spine surgeries on Syrian refugees.

 

3. The refugees fled to Jordan refugee camps to escape the war in Syria.

 

4. Dr. Kurtom worked with the Syrian American Medical Society to organize the mission trip.

 

5. The OR team performed 22 surgeries at Istishari Hospital in Amman.
