Dr. D. Greg Anderson heads research on CLARIX 100 for lumbar microdiscectomy: 5 things to know

Spine

AMNIOX Medical reported positive results from its clinical study testing the efficacy of CLARIX Cryopreserved Amniotic Membrane.

Clinical Spine Surgery published the study.

Here are five things to know:

1. The study tested CLARIX 100 for lumbar microdiscectomy surgery.

2. D. Greg Anderson, MD, of Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute, led the study, which include 80 patients.

3. Forty patients received CLARIX 100, which surgeons placed in the annular defect when removing the disc fragment during microdiscectomy. The other 40 patients received standard care without adjunctive tissue placement.

4. Researchers found CLARIX 100 patients saw greater pain reduction and improved daily function at six weeks post-surgery. These patients also saw improvement through the two-year follow up.

5. While 7.5 percent of the control group experienced re-herniation, no CLARIX 100 patients had re-herniation.
