Jim Kyle, MD, the team physician of Concord University in Athens, W.Va., recently discussed the importance of implementing a medical timeout at sporting events, according to a Bluefield Daily Telegraph report. The medical timeout would be a 30 minute period prior to the beginning of sporting event that would allow team physicians, emergency medical services, athletic trainers and assistant coaches to discuss how to handle an emergency injury.
Dr. Kyle plans to put the timeout in practice next year.
