Pietro Tonino, MD, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, has conducted a study of a three-dimensional system designed to detect the disruption of scapulo-humeral rhythm in baseball pitchers, which can lead to shoulder injuries, according to an AZOsensors report. The Xbus Kit gathers information using gyroscopes, accelerometers and magnetometers attached to the pitcher's sternum, forearm, scapula and humerus. The system can operate using only a laptop computer.
Dr. Tonino is the director of sports medicine at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill.
