American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons President Joshua J. Jacobs, MD, recently presented the Iowa Orthopaedic Society with the State Society of the Year award for its efforts in establishing the first and only state-based orthopedics research foundation, according to an AAOS Now report. The Iowa Orthopaedic Research Foundation was established in 2011 to fund community-based clinical research to improve orthopedic surgery. During its first year, the organization raised around $30,000, most from participating Iowa orthopedic surgeons, according to the report.
The Foundation also encourages collaboration with medical students and residents at the University of Iowa.
