In a recent study published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine, researchers explore the efficacy of the Arthroscopic Surgical Skill Evaluation Tool as a method for assessing the orthopedic surgeons' arthroscopic skill.
• ASSET uses eight skill domains to evaluate orthopedic surgeons.
• ASSET found significant differences in scores between novice, intermediate and advanced orthopedic surgeons.
• The researchers concluded that ASSET is a valid, reliable method for evaluation of orthopedic surgeon performance during arthroscopic knee surgery
Thus far, ASSET has been used to evaluate arthroscopic knee surgery performance on cadaver specimens. Studies will continue to evaluate the tool's use in the live operating room.
