Orthopedic surgeons are among the top 20 recruited physician specialists, according to a report from staffing firm Merritt Hawkins.
However, salaries offers for orthopedic surgeons have fallen 7 percent over the past year. In 2011 to 2012, the average salary offer was $519,000 while the average salary offer in 2012 to 2013 was reported as $483,000.
Other specialties among the top 20 recruited include cardiology, gastroenterology and neurology. Physician assistants and nurse practitioners were also among the top recruits, seeing average salary offers increase by about $20,000 and $10,000 over the past year respectively.
