Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, Calif., has acquired a $120,000 Xenex robot that is designed to kill germs, according to a CBS Los Angeles report.
The 150-pound robot uses a xenon bulb to produce ultraviolet light to kill possible sources of infection, including MRSA and C. difficile, in the operating room.
The robot, nicknamed Sadie, kills nearly any possible infection source within 10 minutes.
