William O. Roberts, MD, FACSM, a "thought leader" in marathon medicine, was named the recipient of the The American College of Sports Medicine 2015 Honor Award. Here are six things to know:
1. Dr. Roberts is a professor of family medicine at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and program director for the St. John’s Family Medicine residency.
2. He has done seminal research on marathon injury epidemiology and injury prevention.
3. Dr. Roberts has contributed 87 peer-reviewed publications and over 70 book chapters, abstracts, letters and advisories.
4. Previously, Dr. Roberts served as president of ACSM and the ACSM Foundation Board.
5. Currently, Dr. Roberts is the editor of ACSM’s clinical journal, Current Sports Medicine Reports.
6. The ACSM Honor Award is an annual recognition granted to "an individual with a distinguished career of outstanding scientific and scholarly contributions to sports medicine and/or the exercise sciences," said Larry Armstrong, president of ACSM.
