Boston Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg will have lumbar microdiscectomy surgery, according to ESPN.
Here are five things to know:
1. Mr. Seidenberg is undergoing surgery to fix a lumbar spine disc herniation.
2. Louis Jenis, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, will perform the surgery.
3. Dr. Jenis received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, and completed a residency at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. He also completed a fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
4. Certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Jenis specializes in minimally invasive procedures.
5. Mr. Seidenberg is expected to miss out on eight weeks of play.
