The Pittsburgh Steelers named their South Side training facility after Chairman Dan Rooney and expanded a partnership with UPMC, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Here are five things to know:
1. UPMC and the Steelers are undergoing a $10 million expansion to the South Side training facility, which will be dubbed UPMC Rooney Sports Medicine Complex. The Steelers are sharing in the facility improvement costs
2. The Steelers renewed their relationship with UPMC for 15 years. The team began using the South Side facility in 2000.
3. The facility expansion was the vision of Mr. Rooney and Chairman of the UPMC department of orthopedic surgery Freddie Fu, MD.
4. The expansion will enlarge the weight and conditioning room. There will be around 5,000 square feet added.
5. The facility expansion will begin in the off season and is expected to finish in time for the start of the 2016 NFL season.
