Dr. James Andrews #5 among richest doctors in the world: 6 points

James Andrews, MD, was ranked No. 5 on the Gazette-Review's list of top 10 richest doctors in the world.

1. Dr. Andrews is worth $100 million, according to the Gazette-Review.

2. He is the founder of the Andrews Institute for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Fla. He is president and chairman of the board of the Andrews Research and Education Foundation dedicated to prevention, education and research at the Andrews Institute. The practice also includes a fellowship program. He has mentored more than 314 orthopedic and sports medicine fellows as well as 84 primary care sports medicine fellows.

3. In 2015, Dr. Andrews began work with the Children's Medical Center Plano (Texas) to create the Children's Health Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Dr. Andrews is directing the program's development. He is also co-founder of the American Sports Medicine Institute, a non-profit institute dedicated to injury prevention, education and research in orthopedics and sports medicine.

4. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Andrews is passionate about youth sports injury prevention. He was president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine when the organization developed the STOP Sports Injuries in youth athletes program. He also collaborated with a former associate editor at Sports Illustrated to write "Any Given Monday: Sports Injuries and How to Prevent Them, for Athletes, Parents and Coaches — Based on My Life in Sports Medicine."

5. Dr. Andrews is the national advisory board chair for Impact Cryotherapy, a company focused on designing and manufacturing whole body cryotherapy systems. He is also the company's medical director.

 

6. Dr. Andrews has made television appearances on ESPN and appears on a Topps baseball training card. Some have argued he should be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame for his contributions to the field; he was inducted into the Alabama Sports hall of Fame after founding his initial practice there.
