James Andrews, MD, performed knee surgery on Jacksonville Jaguars rookie cornerback Jalen Ramsey, according to an ESPN report.

Here are five key notes:

 

1. Dr. Andrews will repair a torn meniscus in Mr. Ramsey's right knee.

 

2. Mr. Ramsey could miss up to six months of training.

 

3. Dr. Andrews founded the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Fla. He is also president and chairman of the board of the Andrews Research and Education Foundation.

 

4. Dr. Andrews is passionate about youth sports injury prevention. He was president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine when the organization developed the STOP Sports Injuries in youth athletes program.

 

5. He is the orthopedic medical director for the Tampa Bay Rays as well as a senior consultant for the Washington Redskins.
