Dr. Todd Fowler running for Johnson City Commission in Tennessee: 6 things to know

Todd Fowler, MD, a sports medicine physician at Tennessee-based Watauga Orthopedics, is running for a sport on the Johnson City Commission, the Johnson City Press reports.

Here's what you should know.

 

1. Dr. Fowler will run against Johnson City Mayor Clayton Stout, incumbent Commissioner Ralph Van Brocklin, County Commissioner Joe Wise and William Hill. The top three will all be elected to the commission.

 

2. Mr. Stout and Mr. Van Brocklin along with Commissioner Jeff Banyas all have expiring terms. Mr. Banyas is not seeking re-election.

 

3. Dr. Fowler is running because of an interest in politics, and a desire to "make sure Johnson City continues to be a great place to raise your kids," he said.

 

4. Dr. Fowler earned his medical degree from the University of Texas. He completed a residency at the University of Oklahoma. He had a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Eastern Oklahoma Orthopedic Center.

 

5. Dr. Fowler has lived in Johnson City for the last 24 years.

 

6. In addition to his practice, Dr. Fowler owns several Little Caesars Pizza franchises, and he is the team doctor for Science Hill High School, Milligan College, Tusculum College, the Johnson City Cardinals and the Elizabethton Twins.
