West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health and New Brunswick, N.J.-based Rutgers University broke ground on the construction of a $18 million performance center as part of the partners' commitment to creating a "world-class" sports medicine program.
Here's what you need to know.
1. RWJBarnabas is investing $18 million into the university to create the RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center and a sports medicine program at the university.
In return the health system will be the exclusive healthcare provider for Rutgers Athletics.
2. The center will be four stories and 295,000 square feet and will headquarter the sports medicine program, overseen by the health system.
3. The new facility is expected the center will open in July 2019.
4. The sports medicine program will feature athletic trainers, physical therapists, sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, sports psychologists and many other providers.
5. The center will be a practice facility for the university's basketball, wrestling and gymnastics programs.
