Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Golden State Warriors star forward Kevin Durant left last night's game due to a left knee injury and underwent an MRI at Washington, D.C.-based Medstar Washington Hospital Center. The results have shown Mr. Durant suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain and his condition is expected to be re-evaluated in four weeks.

Here are five other professional athletes who returned to play after spraining their MCLs:

1. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson suffered a grade 2 sprained MCL in his left knee during week three of the 2016 NFL season, according to Fansided. Mr. Wilson didn't undergo surgery and started the rest of the Seahawks' regular season and playoff games.

2. Mr. Durant's teammate, Golden State Warriors guard and two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry sustained a grade 1 MCL sprain in the first round of last year's playoffs, according to SB Nation. Mr. Curry missed two weeks but returned in game four of the second round and played through the finals.

3. Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin suffered a serious grade 2 MCL sprain in 2015 and missed about a month of play, according to Fansided.

4. The Chicago Tribune reported Bears quarterback Jay Cutler's grade 2 MCL sprain sustained during the 2010 NFC Championship game wouldn’t have kept him out of the 2011 Super Bowl had the team advanced. After the team lost, however, Mr. Cutler's knee was treated with physical conditioning and a rehab program.

5. Cleveland Indians catcher Yan Gomes missed six weeks after spraining his MCL during the 2015 MLB season, according to The Score.
