Longtime Detroit Red Wings team physician John Finley, DO, has passed away, according to Detroit Free Press.

1. Dr. Finley joined the Red Wings' caregiving staff in 1957.
2. He continued to serve the team until retiring from medical practice in 2003.
3. His book, Hockeytown Doc was published in 2012.
4. Dr. Finley was former president of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.
5. Dr. Finley passed away on Thursday, April 27.
Former Red Wings Coach Scotty Bowman said, "All the players had so much confidence in him, in what he knew and what he could be able to do for them…When you needed medical attention, you could always count on John to get you to the right place. It wasn't just a job for him, it was a passion."
