Here are 15 orthopedic surgeons who treated professional athletes in April 2017:

Brian Cole, MD, of Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush operated on New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose's knee.

 

Neal ElAttrache, MD, of Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic performed Tommy John surgery on New York Yankees top pitching prospect James Kaprielian. 

 

James Andrews, MD, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute performed surgery on Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Clay Buchholz.

 

Richard Guyer, MD, of Plano-based Center for Disc Replacement at the Texas Back Institute operated on Tiger Woods' back to treat the golfer's sciatica.

 

Christopher C. Dodson, MD, of Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute performed arthroscopic surgery on Philadelphia 76ers forward Robert Covington.

 

Foot and ankle specialist Richard D. Ferkel, MD, of Los Angeles-based Southern California Orthopedic Institute treated Los Angeles Clippers star forward Blake Griffin's toe.

 

David Altchek, MD, of New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery performed shoulder surgery on New York Knicks center Joakim Noah. 

 

Keith Meister, MD, of TMI Sports Medicine in Arlington, Texas, recommended Minnesota Twins pitcher Ryan O'Rourke undergo surgery to repair the partially torn ligament in his elbow.

 

Dr. Andrews confirmed an initial diagnosis on Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Xavier Cedeno's left arm. 

 

Giants team orthopedist Ken Akizuki, MD, and San Francisco 49ers orthopedist Timothy McAdams, MD, consulted about San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner's injured AC joint. Drs. ElAttrache and Andrews evaluated Mr. Bumgarner's test results, as well.

 

Mariners Medical Director Edward Khalfayan, MD, of Seattle-based Orthopedic Physician Associates examined and diagnosed Seattle Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez and outfielder Mitch Haniger's injuries. 

 

Freddie H. Fu, MD, and Volker Musahl, MD, of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center operated on Manchester United's Zlatan Ibrahimovic's knee.

 

Brad Nelson, MD, of Maple Grove, Minn.-based TRIA Orthopaedic Center performed surgery on Minnesota Wild defenseman Christian Folin.

 

Diamondbacks team physician Gary Waslewski, MD, of Phoenix-based OrthoArizona and Drs. ElAttrache and Andrews recommended Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Shelby Miller undergo Tommy John surgery. 

 

Dr. Neal ElAttrache offered New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard a second opinion on his shoulder and bicep pain.

 

Dr. Meister examined Texas Rangers player Cole Hamels before confirming the pitcher had strained his right oblique muscle.
