Newly signed New England Patriots linebacker Brooks Ellis is putting his medical school dreams on hold to pursue a career in the NFL, CSN New England reports.
Here's what you should know.
1. Mr. Ellis was one of the 12 finalists for the Campbell Award. He graduated with a 3.82 GPA for the University of Arkansas. The Associated Press named him a two-time Academic All-American and the SEC awarded him its Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in 2016.
2. Mr. Ellis had to decide between football and medical school. Although football won for now, Mr. Ellis wants to attend medical school to become an orthopedic surgeon.
3. Mr. Ellis plans to send out medical school applications this July. If accepted, he plans on deferring while he focuses on football.
