Cleveland Clinic launched a new app designed to help coaches determine when an athlete is safe to return after suffering from hits and concussions, according to WKSU.
Here are four key points:
1. For the past seven years, the app has been in development. Nearly 50 participating school districts and colleges in Ohio administered the app.
2. At the beginning of the season, athletes complete a series of diagnostic tests to gauge reaction time and coordination.
3. When an athlete suffers a hit, he or she then retakes the tests to determine whether cognitive abilities changed after the hit.
4. Tests range from connecting dots and knowing sequences to balancing on hard and foam surfaces.
