The quadruple aim is gaining steam as physician burnout continues to plow through the industry, according to MedCity News.
Here are five things you need to know:
1. Building off the more commonly referenced triple aim of enhanced patient care, improved population health and reduced costs, the quadruple aim adds clinician satisfaction as a fourth pillar.
2. Originally coined in 2014 in an Annals of Family Medicine commentary, the quadruple aim is making a resurgence in the wake of widespread burnout.
3. The International Conference on Physician Health recently held in Boston highlighted the important of the quadruple aim.
4. The president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians also announced his backing of the quadruple aim concept.
5. The idea is extending beyond just providers and into employee engagement overall, as presented at the Optum Forum 2016.
