UC Los Angeles Health and Van Nuys-based Southern California Orthopedic Institute formed a strategic alliance to expand treatment options and improve access for patients.
Five things to know:
1. Under the alliance, patients in San Fernando, Conejo, Bakersfield and Santa Clarita Valley, all based in California, will have expanded treatment options to orthopedic care.
2. SCOI comprises 40 surgeons with a range of orthopedic specialties. In addition to its Van Nuys headquarters, the group operates five additional California locations.
3. SCOI also operates ambulatory surgery centers in four of its ancillary locations; the ASCs will play a key role in the partnership.
4. The alliance will allow UCLA Health to retain many of its newly trained orthopedic surgeons and offers additional resources to support its sports medicine programs, according to Johnese Spisso, president of UCLA Health and CEO of its hospital system.
5. UCLA Health is not acquiring SCOI medical group, but will acquire a meaningful interest in SCOI’s four outpatient surgery centers. SCOI will implement UCLA’s CareConnect electronic health record system.
