WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals has converted the former St. Francis Hospital in South Charleston, W.Va., to the state's first comprehensive orthopedic hospital.
The Thomas Orthopedic Hospital took 18 months to complete and cost $23 million, ABC affiliate WCHS reported Oct. 29.
Joe Prud'homme, MD, will serve as the executive director of orthopedic surgery for the hospital, according to an Oct. 29 news release from Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine.
The facility will offer a range of orthopedic care, including surgery, postoperative care, X-rays, testing, and occupational and physical therapy. It will also provide pediatric orthopedic care and walk-in services.
While stage one of the project is now complete, the system's goal for the second phase is to add more physical therapy offices, according to WCHS.
