Some orthopedic practices in 2024 chose to band together through mergers to grow.
1. The Institute for Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine merged in April. IOSSM and Orthopedic Center of Florida, both in Fort Myers, are part of Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company and joined the platform in 2023, and together they have more than 28 providers across four locations in Lee and Collier counties.
2. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Atlantis Orthopedics and Port St. Lucie-based South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine announced plans to merge in May. Together they will be one of the largest orthopedic groups in the state and brings together more than 50 providers.
3. Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic and Lafayette-based Louisiana Orthopedic Specialists announced plans to merge. Combined, they form the largest independent orthopedic group in the state.
4. Pacific Crest Orthopedics opened in San Francisco following a merger between Urgently Ortho and the Institute for Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine. The practice will provide a wide range of orthopedic services, from acute injury treatment to complex surgical procedures.Pacific Crest Orthopedics will continue to offer immediate treatment options and urgent care visits as well.
5. Savannah, Ga.-based Optim Orthopedics merged with Brunswick, Ga.-based Southern Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. The two practices operate under the Optim Orthopedics name. Southern Orthopaedics' portfolio of services includes physical therapy, MRI imaging and specialized orthopedic care. The expanded Optim Orthopedics offers orthopedic surgery and care, physical therapy and MRI imaging.
