Market to millennials — 3 findings on generational demand for orthopedic care

Practice Management

The Cox Health Marketing Orthopedics Consumer Insights Study found that millennials are a key market driving the demand for orthopedic services.

Millennials range from 18 to 33 years old. This nationwide study was conducted online by Klein & Partners on behalf of Cox Media Group among 2,000 adults, including 356 millennials.

Here are three survey takeaways:

1. Millennials value health and fitness and want to deal proactively with stress. Among millennials who have been orthopedic patients, 57 percent required care for a sports injury. This generation chiefly opts for surgery for pain relief, followed by getting back to sports or work.

2. Millennials expect a retail-like experience when searching for a healthcare provider, valuing convenience and ease of scheduling. Unlike other generations, millennials select the hospital before the orthopedist.

3. Marketing impacts millennials' choice of provider, and 37 percent said it directly influenced their decision. Over half of millennials — 57 percent — visited a provider's website before their visit.
