Practice Management

New England Orthopedic Surgeons in Springfield, Mass., is furloughing more than half its workforce, according to a Mass Live report.

Four things to know:

1. The practice is furloughing 168 employees as it complies with state and federal recommendations to postpone elective medical procedures.

2. The 18 physicians associated with the practice won't receive compensation "for the foreseeable future," according to the practice's president John Corsetti, MD. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker issued emergency orders to cancel non-essential elective procedures on March 15.

3. Some employees will be maintained on reduced wages.

4. The practice plans to rehire the furloughed workers when elective surgeries start again, and expects practice revenue to recover in three to four months, according to the report.
