Jacksonville (Fla.) Orthopaedic Institute said it will return to operating as an independent practice, according to an April 8 news release shared with Becker’s.
The return to independence comes as the purchase of the practice from Baptist Health takes effect in early summer 2025. While Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute laid off more than 150 workers, there are new plans to add new joint replacement and hand surgeons.
“While JOI recently announced location and staffing changes, the continued growth of its physician team remains a top priority,” the release said. “In 2025, new specialized surgeons in joint replacement and hand surgery will join the group — expanding JOI’s ability to deliver comprehensive, high-quality care to its patients.”
Thirteen physicians remain with the practice, as well as30 physician and occupational therapists, 12 athletic trainers, nine physical therapy assistants and eight physician extenders.
