Peter Bonutti, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon practicing at The Bonutti Clinic in Effingham, Ill. Dr. Bonutti founded the clinic in 1989, and the clinic provides innovative musculoskeletal care for its national and international patients. Dr. Bonutti devised several products including an arthroscopic introduction system, bone buttons for rotator cuff repairs and minimally invasive fracture fixation buttons among several others.
He developed the patented Limited-Incision System Total Knee Replacement in addition to many commercial products. He was the first surgeon to perform the Limited-Incision Total Knee Replacement, which uses the latest innovations in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. Presently, Dr. Bonutti holds 256 U.S.-issued patents and has over 90 pending applications in the United States.
He is an associate clinical professor at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and has published nearly 100 articles as well as book chapters and textbooks. He earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Dr. Bonutti completed a shoulder and elbow fellowship at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. Additionally, Dr. Bonutti completed his sports medicine international traveling fellowship in Sydney, Australia as well as a research fellowship at the Cleveland Research Institute.
