Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, Calif., received an 'Own the Bone' Star Performer designation from the American Orthopaedic Association.
Here are five notes:
1. The designation is given to organizations performing the highest level of fragility fracture and bone health care for its patients.
2. Own the Bone Star Performers are evaluated on several benchmarks, including educating patients on the importance of calcium and vitamin D, physical activity, fall prevention and limiting alcohol intake.
3. HOI earned the designation due to the specific steps taken by its physicians to ensure fracture patients, who are suffering from osteoporosis, are identified, evaluated and treated effectively.
4. HOI consists of a 70-bed hospital and two ambulatory surgery centers.
5. It includes more than 300 physicians, of which 80 are orthopedic specialists.
