Hoag Orthpoedic Institute based in Irvine, Calif., attended the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement in London as a sponsoring partner.
James Caillouette, MD, and Nader Nassif, MD, represented the hospital at the conference and sat on an international panel that crafted an orthopedic standard set of key metrics. The panel collaborated with patient advocates and almost two-dozen physicians from across the world.
"We strongly believe this will emerge as the future of outcomes reporting and measurement and we are honored to have played an integral part of its design," said Dr. Caillouette, who is the chief strategy officer at HOI.
Clinical specialists also presented at the conference and recommended further refinement for value-based healthcare throughout outcomes measurement. HOI includes more than 300 physicians and 80 orthopedic specialists as well as two ambulatory surgery centers.
HOI began doing bundled payments in 2008, serving patients from around the country. Since then HOI has partnered with payers including the Blues, Cigna and Aetna, as well as McKesson on bundled payments for hip and knee replacements.
Hoag has been a sponsoring partner of the event for years.
