Jim Scott, MD, who founded Georgia Sports Medicine in Tifton, is retiring, the Albany Herald reported Nov. 8.
He founded the practice in 1983 and it was acquired by Tift Regional Medical Center in 2015. His career spans more than 40 years and includes leadership roles and volunteering.
He was president of the Georgia Society of Ambulatory Surgery Centers and served on the Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers. Dr. Scott also led the Georgia Orthopedic Society and the Society for Arthritic Joint Surgery.
He traveled to Guatemala and El Salvador and performed more than 4,000 hip and knee replacements as a volunteer. Dr. Scott also received a number of awards, including the John B. Prince III Distinguished Service Award from Tift Regional Medical Center and the Jim Funk Distinguished Service Award from the Georgia Orthopedic Society.
Dr. Scott earned his medical degree from the Augusta-based Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California in Los Angeles.
