New York City-based Columbia University named David Trofa, MD, as the next head physician for the Lions — the school's collective athletic teams.
Dr. Trofa is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic and open surgery of the knee and shoulder, according to a July 5 news release from the university.
During his residency training, Dr. Trofa served as a team physician for the Carolina Panthers of the NFL.
Dr. Trofa will succeed William Levine, MD, who served in the role for 25 years, the release said.
