A civil trial is set to begin on Aug. 7 against Sheridan (Wyo.) Orthopedic Associates and surgeon Brian Laman, MD, after patient Mary Moore filed a suit in 2019 alleging that Dr. Laman declined several times to operate on her wrist, according to an Aug. 3 report from The Sheridan Press.
According to court documents, Ms. Moore injured her wrist in 2017 and visited Sheridan Orthopedic to have the injury evaluated by Dr. Laman.
According to the complaint, Dr. Laman declined to perform surgery on the fractured wrist and instead gave Ms. Moore a short-arm cast. He declined to perform surgery on Ms. Moore during three different visits between May and June of 2017.
In 2018, Ms. Moore saw another specialist who said the nonoperative approach to her treatment caused misalignment and radiocarpal arthritis, both permanent conditions.
Court documents allege that Sheridan and Dr. Laman failed to repair the fracture, failed to inform Ms. Moore on the risks of nonoperative treatment and failed to conform to industry standards.
