Meet the physicians who care for the NFL's 14 highest-paid players

Jared Goff, quarterback for the Detroit Lions, has been named the highest-paid NFL player in 2024, with an on-field contract reaching $80.6 million, according to a Sept. 5 report from Forbes

Combined, the top 10 players are set to collect $644 million in the 2024 league year before taxes and agents’ fees. 

Forbes ranked the NFL’s highest-paid players' on-field earnings by calculating both base salaries and bonuses paid in 2024 or in connection with the 2024 season, for contracts signed as of Sept. 4, 2024. The off-field earnings reflect annual cash from endorsements, licensing, appearances and memorabilia, as well as cash returns from any businesses in which the athlete has a significant interest.

Here are the orthopedic specialists who provide care for the 10 highest-paid NFL players in 2024: 

1. Jared Goff, $85.6 million, quarterback for the Detroit Lions, is cared for by T. Sean Lynch, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Detroit-based Henry Ford Health. 

2. Patrick Mahomes, $81 million, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs,is cared for by head team orthopedic surgeon J. Paul Schroeppel, MD. He is also a sports medicine and arthroscopy specialist at the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City. 

3. Jordan Love, $80.5 million, quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, is cared for by Patrick McKenzie, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Green Bay, Wis.-based Prevea Health.

4. Joe Burrow, $69.7 million, quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, is cared for by Thomas Graham , MD, physician in chief at the Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute in Bethlehem, Pa. 

5. Justin Herbert, $66.6 million, quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers, is cared for by David Gazzaniga, MD, a sports medicine specialist at the Newport Beach, Calif.-based Newport Orthopedic Institute.

6. Kirk Cousins, $65 million, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, is cared for by Kyle Hammond, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Emory Healthcare in Brookhaven, Ga.  

7. Travis Kelce, $52 million, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, is  cared for by Dr. Paul Schroeppel.

8. Russell Wilson, $49 million, quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is cared for by James Bradley, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Burke & Bradley Orthopedics in Pittsburgh, Pa.  

9. Aaron Rodgers, $47.2 million, quarterback for the New York Jets, who are cared for by Damion Antonio Martins, MD, a physical medicine, rehabilitation and sports medicine physician in Morristown, N.J. 

10. Deshaun Watson, $47 million, quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, is cared for by James Voos, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at UH Cleveland Medical Center. In 2017, Mr. Watson was also operated on by Walt Lowe, MD.
