1. Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council issued a report Thursday stating the number of knee and hip replacements have rapidly increased during the past decade.
2. A study has found a large discrepancy in hospital charges for such surgeries.
3. The charges in the Philadelphia region for joint replacement procedures fluctuate by more than $125,000.
4. Pottstown Memorial Medical Center was found to have the highest charge in the Philadelphia region with charging $168,558 for knee replacement surgery.
5. A hip replacement surgery at Pottstown Memorial costs $151,493.
