Bernie P. Davis, MD, a retired orthopedic surgeon, passed away this past Fri., Oct. 28, according to the Buffalo News. He was 90 years old.
Here are five things to know about Dr. Davis:
1. He worked in private practice in Buffalo, N.Y. He also practiced at local hospitals, including Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kenmore Mercy Hospital and North Tonawanda, N.Y.-based DeGraff Memorial Hospital.
2. He held many leadership positions in the orthopedic community, including as the president of the Western New York Orthopedic Society and as a council member of the Maimonides Medical Society.
3. He was a clinical instructor of orthopedic surgery at University at Buffalo, where he had received his medical degree in 1952.
4. He served as a medic in Okinawa, Japan, during World War II. He also provided volunteer medical care to Israeli and Syrian soldiers in Israel during the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
5. He held memberships with Medical Society of the State of New York, American Medical Association and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, among other professional societies.
