Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Thomas Sculco of Hospital for Special Surgery

Thomas P. Sculco, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. Sculco served as HSS’s surgeon-in-chief from 2003 through 2014 and is now surgeon-in-chief emeritus. He is also an orthopedic surgery professor at New York City-based Weill Cornell Medical College.

Dr. Sculco helped establish HSS’s Complex Joint Reconstruction Center, where he serves as director.

HSS awarded Dr. Sculco its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. Dr. Sculco also received the Hip Society’s Otto Aufranc and Charnley awards, as well as the Arthritis Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. 

He is the Knee Society’s past president and a founding member. He is the first American to be elected as an Austrian Orthopaedic Society honorary member.

After earning his medical degree from New York City-based Columbia University, Dr. Sculco completed a residency at HSS.
