Globus Medical sued Stryker and a former engineer for allegedly stealing proprietary trade secrets when the engineer accepted a new job at Stryker, according to Mass Device.
Here’s what you need to know.
1. The lawsuit alleges the former engineer broke her non-compete and non-disclosure contract with Globus Medical after she accepted a job at Stryker Nov. 1. While at Globus Medical, the engineer worked as an associate project engineer and project engineer, developing corticocancellous spacers for cervical fusion.
2. In a Nov. 14 statement, Stryker denied the allegations of the engineer was in violation of the previous agreement. Stryker argues the engineer’s responsibilities are not in a “competitive capacity” as an advanced operations project manager.
3. While the engineer oversees products Stryker has already developed, Globus Medical argued any product can undergo design changes throughout product development. At Stryker, the engineer’s role involves the manufacturing process for already metal products.
4. Stryker further argued the engineer spent her time working in the biologics sector of Globus Medical. Stryker also made claims about separating its project engineers between the research and development department and advanced operations department.
5. The engineer denies having knowledge or understanding of Globus Medical’s sales, budget or forecast information.
