Patients and physicians more than ever are demanding minimally invasive surgery systems that better patient outcomes and reduce operating time.
Intuitive Surgical developed the da Vinci Surgical System, it was the first robotic surgical system on the market. Later, Mazor Robotics released its Renaissance Surgical System. With its recently partnership with Medtronic, Mazor Robotics has seen an influx in Renaissance purchases.
Here's what you need to know about the competing systems, according to Hacked.
1. Mazor Robotics' surgical system sells for $850,000. The company has a disposable business model and reports $1,500 in disposable costs per procedure. Mazor sees gross profits of more than $1,350 on these disposables.
2. In 2017, Intuitive Surgical reported the da Vinci system was used in more than 650,000 procedures. Additionally, the company installed 3,597 systems at hospitals around the world last year.
3. In comparison with Intuitive Surgical, Mazor Robotics would need to sell nearly 2,800 surgical systems for 500,000 procedures, making up half of the global market.
4. Mazor Robotics has roughly 200 Renaissance systems installed at hospitals worldwide. The company anticipates its 2017 year-end revenues to reach $65 million.
5. Currently, Mazor Robotics is valued at roughly $1.7 billion while Intuitive Surgical is valued at more than $45 billion.
