Andrew Rhea, MD, performed the first spine surgery cases using Kevin Cahill's, MD, PhD, Power T Handle device, Virtual-Strategy Magazine reports.
Here are five things to know:
1. The Power T Handle is designed to merge power and tactile feel in spinal and other surgical procedures.
2. The cordless device transitions from a manual handle to a low-speed, high-torque power driver while preserving the manual capabilities of traditional T-handles that attach to orthopedic instruments.
3. The single-use device is provided in a sterile package for immediate use.
4. Andrew Rhea, MD, is a neurosurgeon at Florence (S.C.) Neurosurgery and Spine Center and the chief of staff at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
5. Dr. Cahill is the president and founder of Power T Handle. He and a team of medical device engineers developed the spine device.
