Sacroiliac joint fusion technology is advancing, and the data shows it’s efficacy across different medtech companies.
Five notes:
1. Tenon Medical earned FDA 510(k) clearance to use its Catamaran sacroiliac joint system for augmenting thoracolumbar fusion. The indication was first used in June by Andrew Trontis, MD.
2. A new study found that Aurora Spine’s SiLO TFX sacroiliac fusion system saw stronger outcomes compared to traditional posterolateral transosseous techniques. The clinical study, published in Neurospine, found SiLO TFX removed less bone volume and offered a larger surface area for bony fusion compared to the posterolateral transosseous technique, according to an April 2 news release from the company. The system also maintained the bone-implant interface upon fatigue loading in all specimens.
3. Aurora Spine’s SiLO sacroiliac joint fusion system surpassed 2,500 procedures in the U.S. The SiLO platform includes the SiLO-TFX system and uses a posterior approach to secure transfixation across the SI joint.
4. Spinal Simplicity launched its Patriot-SI standalone posterior sacroiliac joint fusion implant. The implant is made from 3D-printed titanium alloy and is fully hydroxyapatite-coating.. Patriot-SI is the only fully cannulated posterior system of its kind and lets surgeons deploy it over a guidewire.
5. New data published in the Journal of Spine Surgery notes that fully threaded screw technology surpasses triangular implant design for sacroiliac joint fusion by 300% in fixation strength.
