Bedford, Mass.-based OnPoint Surgical received an award for an augmented reality spine surgery patent that was granted in June, the company said Nov. 8.
The U.S. patent, titled "Augmented reality guidance for spinal procedures using stereoscopic optical see-through head mounted displays with cameras and 3D scanners," was issued on June 29.
OnPoint's AR technology superimposes virtual surgical guides and virtual spinal implants onto the patient during surgery via the surgeon's optical headset. It has applications for manual and robot-assisted surgery.
The patent will be recognized at the Boston Invented Here ceremony in November.
