ZimVie earned FDA approval for its new version of the Mobi-C cervical disc, the devicemaker said Aug. 10.
The new version is smaller with a 4.5mm height and comes in seven footprints, according to a news release. The disc is approved for reconstruction of a cervical disc at both one and two levels.
"Surgeons will be able to use the prostheses in more significantly collapsed discs and avoid over-distraction of the facet joints," spine surgeon Jad Khalil, MD, said in the release. "This will expand the indications for cervical disc arthroplasty and therefore more patients can benefit from the clinically compelling Mobi-C cervical disc."
