5 medtech notes: Smith+Nephew, Zavation and more

From a company layoff to FDA nods, here are five key developments from spine and orthopedic medtech companies since Dec. 4.

1. Zavation, a spine device company, named Lane Major as CEO.

2. Smith+Nephew is making about 150 roles redundant at its campus in Memphis, Tenn. The company has not specified when the layoffs will take place.

3. Maxx Orthopedics earned FDA clearance for its medial congruent insert for the Freedom total knee system.

4. Theradaptive earned the FDA's investigational device exemption approval to broaden its clinical research for the OsteoAdapt SP implant.

5. Stryker experienced a data breach. The company filed a notice of data breach with the attorney general of Texas after the company discovered that an unauthorized party gained access to its computer network.
